School Council and Eco- School Committee

2025 – 2026

On the International Day of Democracy (Monday 15th September 2025) we held our school council elections.

Lots of children across the school put themselves forward to represent their classes and amazed us with their confident campaign speeches. We were so impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment!

Congratulations to our new School Council members, who were elected after receiving the most votes in their classes. As part of the School Council, these pupils will also join our Eco-School Committee, working together to make our school a greener and more environmentally friendly place to be.

2024 – 2025

On Thursday 19th September 2024 we held our school council elections. Lots of children across the school decided that they would like to represent their class and amazed us with their campaign speeches. They were so brave and confident. Congratulations to our new school council members who were elected by winning the most votes in their class. As part of the school council, the children also become members of our Eco-School Committee and work towards making our school a more environmentally friendly place to be. 
 

Eco- School Work 

After completing our school environmental review with help from Mr Dunn and our school meals staff, we decided on the three areas that we wanted to have on our eco-school action plan.

Aim 1 – To recycle our tetrapack milk cartons instead of putting them in with the general rubbish. 

Aim 2 – To reduce the amount of energy we use in school in relation to thermostats, lights and items that use electricity. 

Aim 3– To learn more about our mental health and how to look after our own and other’s mental health needs.

2023 – 2024

MP Visit to Forest View Primary

On Friday 27th October 2023 our school council welcomed Emma Lewell-Buck (member of parliament for South Shields) into our school. The children enjoyed thinking about what questions they wanted to ask her and were excited to find out what her job involves. She was asked everything from her day to day life in the job to what she thought of our Prime Minister! The children as always were a credit to our school and we are very proud of them.

Supporting the Older People in our Community

Our school council decided it would be a nice idea to support ACTS (Age Concern South Tyneside) this year by provding older people in our community with a shoe box to open at Christmas.

Everyone at Forest View and ACTS were blown away by our parents/carers generosity in providing items/full shoe boxes for our charity appeal.

Our school council handed over a fantastic 28 full shoe boxes as well as some handmade cards made by the children.

 

School Council 2022 – 2023

 

Robyn Y1 – “I want to be on the school council to help make our school better. I want to start some new after school clubs for art and a times table club. I want to choose some people to look after our outdoor area in the gardens and around the school. I like school dinners but I want to have more choices at lunchtime. I think different pasta and garlic bread would be good. At lunchtime it would be good to have buddies for kids who have nobody to play with.”

Charlotte Y2 – “My name is Charlotte. I would like to be on the school council because I am polite and hardworking. I would like to help others and my school. Please vote for me.”

Drew Y2 – “I’m going to be a role model. I will be able to talk to other classes. I will be kind and lovely.”

Emily Y2 – “I will try my best at all times. I will not fight with others and listen at all times.

Isla Y3 – “Hello, I want to be a school councilor because I want to help people even new people. I also want to improve the 2 trim trails and stop people getting bullied!”

Lillie Y3/4 – “I want to be a school councilor because I want to make the school happy and so no-one can get sad. I want the school to be happy.”

Archie Y4 – “Hi everybody my name is Archie. I would love to be on the school council because I would make the school community a better place for everyone. I will listen to what everybody wants and try my best to make it happen. I will get us chicken nuggets for dinner everyday and curry for Clintin. I would stop people from fighting and speak up for all of my class mates. So please vote for me.”

Darci Y5 – “Hi, my name is Darci as you all know. I am 10 years old. The reason I want to be on the school council is because I’ve been trying for half my life. I think 7 years basically, since Year 1. I have lovely ideas for you, one is a Basketball Team! I will always listen to you, I am here to help and will make school a better place! :-)”

Layla Y6 – “Hi my name is Layla and I would like to be a school councilor because I love helping people. I will try and raise more money for more equipment. I will also try and arrange more trips for everyone so that you are happy to come to school. Please vote for me!”

 

Find out about our new ‘Fundraise and Recycle- School Connect’ project – Recycle your well-loved clothing and raise funds for school.

The school council worked together to contact a company who recycle clothes and help them from going into landfills. They sent a letter out to all of the parents and carers in school to let them know about the project.
